Chad Reed takes licking, but keeps ticking after spectacular crash

Chad Reed’s second race in Saturday’s Lucas Oil AMA Motocross Championship started just as planned. The current points leader edged ahead of his rival Ryan VIllopoto for the lead after the first few turns, as he was gunning for his fifth overall win of the season. Then, in the blink of an eye, things took a scary turn. Reed lost traction heading up a jump, was separated from his during takeoff, but that was already too late. He was launched 35-feet up in the air, without his bike, before landing on the side of the track.

The whole incident rattled the crowd at the Spring Creek in Millville, MN. But incredibly, Reed was able to jump back on his bike within minutes. He ended up passing half the field to finish the race in 14th place, which was good enough for him to keep a grip on his overall series lead.
