JGR/James Stewart Teleconference
10.29.2011 // 0 Comments
For those of you die-hard fans who want to know everything you can about the signing of James Stewart to Joe Gibbs Racing, here’s a complete transcription of the phone conference conducted between various members of the motocross media and Joe Gibbs Racing’s Joe Gibbs, Coy Gibbs and James Stewart. Enjoy.
Official: James Stewart to JGR
10.25.2011 // 1 Comment
Although the teleconference isn’t scheduled until noon PST, the on-site press conference went down at noon EST and James Stewart is officially a member of the JGR/Toyota Yamaha team. Some of the team sponsors are still up in the air, but you can count on Toyota remaining on board, and maybe also the addition of Red Bull to the team. Red Bull was a team sponsor for Stewart’s last team, thanks to Stewart bringing them on board. Joe Gibbs Racing has never had a true championship contender on its motocross team, and now the team has the winningest active racer in supercross and motocross, and Stewart will be racing both indoors and outdoors in 2012. This is a blessing and a curse for the same reason: There are no more excuses for JGR. The only way for this relationship to be considered successful is for Stewart to win, and win a lot.
2012 450cc AMA MX Silly Season Update
10.24.2011 // 4 Comments
While some teams are complete, and some were actually never on the market for riders at all for the 2012 season, there are still a lot of holes to fill for the upcoming AMA Motocross and Supercross season. So, we’ll break it down to the best of our abilities right now, alphabetically by bike brand, but keep in mind there are still holes, so some of this is speculation; albeit educated speculation:
Ryan Dungey Interview
10.20.2011 // 0 Comments
In his Red Bull KTM debut, only a couple weeks after he officially started testing the KTM 450 SX/F, Ryan Dungey showed up at the Monster Energy Cup to do battle. His entry was last-minute and it came down to a vote between Ryan Dungey, Roger Decoster and Ian Harrison, in which Decoster was outvoted 2-1. No one was on his rival Ryan Villopoto’s level that night, but Dungey was better than everyone else, finishing second overall, in an impressive debut. KTM has never had a podium in the top class in an AMA Supercross event – and technically still doesn’t – but this looks promising for 2012, to say the least.
Stewart/Chisholm to JGR
10.19.2011 // 1 Comment
Puzzle pieces are coming together for the 2012 season and perennial championship favorite James Stewart. Until at least early this week, Suzuki was trying to figure out a way to sign Stewart to ride their RM-Z450 in 2012. Stewart reportedly really likes the bike – a feeling he shares with a lot of top-level factory 450cc racers, including Ryan Dungey, Chad Reed, Mike Alessi, and more. The problem is that Suzuki doesn’t have the budget, so the dilemma for Stewart was, “Do I sign with JGR to continue riding Yamahas and get paid, or do I sign with Suzuki and hope that I get along with the bike well enough to win titles indoors and out to get paid?” Well, it looks like the decision is over with. Stewart will be with JGR Yamaha. How do I know?
