Dungey streaked away to the first moto win after battling several laps with a surprisingly tough Blake Wharton for the lead. Once around Wharton, Dungey ran uncontested out front for the first moto win. In moto two, Dungey went down pretty hard after running into another rider and going down once, then falling again before remounting and moving forward to end up 5th. His 1-5 moto scores were good enough for the overall, though, and now he's tied with 2nd moto winner Chris Pourcel for the points lead.

The "Premier" class launches up the ultra-short Washougal MX Park's start straight to begin their 2nd moto - LIVE on SpeedTV. Josh Grant snagged the holeshot, followed by Davi Millsaps. Ultimately Chad Reed chased everyone down from about 6th to run away with the win and overall, stretching his points lead to a massive 65 points over Josh Grant, who moved to 2nd.

Chad Reed had to work for his 2nd moto win, seemingly stuck behind teammate Michael Byrne for quite a while. Once around the Byrner, though, Reed set out after a fading Jason Lawrence before setting his sites on Josh Grant in the lead. He made short work of them both and quickly pulled away, with lap times 2-3 seconds faster by the moto's end. It took Chad about half the moto to get moving, but once he did he dominated.

The stage was set for moto 1 of the 250's when Blake Wharton launched off to a holeshot, with Ryan Dungey and Jake Weimer in hot pursuit. Weimer went down on the first lap while KTM's Max Anstie continued to impress out front, running in the top 5 for a good chunk of the race. He eventually ended up 9th.

Grant had another on/off day, impressing with speed at times but a bit disappointing overall when Reed caught and dropped him with ease in the 2nd moto. But 2nd place overall is impressive nonetheless, and Grant deserves kudos for a job well done (for the most part).

Canidae/Motosport Kawasaki's Kyle Cunningham is one of those riders who coulda/shoulda/woulda been great by now, but he's just recently falling into his groove up front in the 250 class. In the first moto at Washougal, Cunningham ran 3rd for most of the moto before running down Blake Wharton and, seemingly, gaining time on Dungey in the lead. It was an incredibly impressive ride for sure, but unfortunately a DNF in moto 2 after a hard crash put a damper on the day.

Equally impressive and just as unlucky in the 2nd moto was Cunningham's teammate Tommy Hahn. So similar was Hahn's performance to his teammates that it's almost like they planned it. Hahn ran an almost unbelievable 2nd place in moto one behind Chad Reed, where he chased him within a couple of seconds all the way to the flag then... crashed in the first turn in moto 2 and DNF. It appears he wasn't significantly injured in the fall.

What'd we tell ya about that Matt Goerke, huh? He ran a great first moto, ending up 4th and on the lead pace and was doing the same in moto two until he DNF due to "stomach issues". We spoke with his team manager about it (and witnessed it for ourselves) - Matt had fluid flowing out of both ends before, during and after that 2nd moto, so it's legit.

Blake rode great at Washougal, making up for a few less than stellar performances lately. It must feel good for the young Texan to finally be the top performer on his team, not the worst. Great job for Blake to go 3-3 for 2nd overall.

Blake Wharton was one happy camper at Washougal, and he deserved to be. Although he did fade a bit after giving up the lead to Dungey, his 2nd moto was right up there too and he nearly nabbed the overall win - going 3-3 to Dungey's 1-5 put him one point away from that goal. He'd have been the first rider on the Geico Powersports team to do that this season.

Millsaps redeemed himself a bit in moto 2 after a dismal 1st moto performance. Finishing up that first go-round in 21st, Millsaps was the lone RedBull/Honda rider to make it out of the moto two's first turn on two wheels, as both his teammates were on the ground. He ran third for a few laps before capitulating to the charges of Byrne, Reed, Jarred Browne (!!) and Nick Wey (!). Huh? He does have a bunch of new tattoos though, so that's cool...

That wacky Frenchman keeps on putting bad starts and runs through the pack together with holeshots and run away wins to land on the overall podiums this summer. This time he went 8-1 for 3rd overall, losing 5 points to Dungey and is now tied for the overall series points lead. So guess what? There will be two guys running red backgrounds at Unadilla

Pourcel seems removed from, oh, just about everything while at the races really. His reaction on the podium is more of disdain and/or dislike for everyone there than it is of elation, and the fact that he's leading the series doesn't seem to matter much. He is a fun study in photography though, as he tries hard to avoid eye contact and keep to himself while in front of a couple of thousand people begging for his attention.

Weimer was 'right there' on speed all day, but a crash in both motos left him struggling. He did make a great comeback in the first moto, though, going from 35th to 10th.

Weimer was one of the other not-so-happy-to-be-here faces on the 2nd moto podium at Washougal. Clearly bummed with his first moto performance, but 2nd in moto two must've felt pretty good. Oh whoa is he.

Just when you write this guy off as a never-was, he turns around and redeems himself - to the max. A so-so start in moto 1 and fading performance was contrasted with a great start in moto 2 and running in 2nd for the first half. Jason had Grant's pace up front for sure that 2nd moto, but just couldn't actually GAIN any time on him. If Grant had made a mistake, JLaw would've lead... at least until Reedy picked up his pace and caught them both.
