Dang, how about that Michael Byrne? The Byrner ran up front all afternoon at Millville, Minnesota's Spring Creek Motocross Park. In probably one of the most remarkable 450 rides of the day, the 'other guy' on the Rockstar/Makita Suzuki team really seems to be getting back up to speed in a hurry... Maybe because it's contract time? Byrne went 3-4 for 3rd overall, for his first podium finish of the season.

Tommy Hahn came back from a DNF in Red Bud crash (where he sustained a sprained neck and rung bell) to pump out a very solid 4th in moto one. Moto two wasn't so good, as Tommy went 13th - not sure what happened there, but look at the comments here later in the week for a likely update on the real deal.

Tedesco had an up/down day, very similar to his performance at Red Bud. He went backwards from 3rd to 5th in moto one, then ran great in moto two for 2nd and 2nd overall. Don't forget that IT won a Lites title based on consistency a few years back, although this time he's got Chad Reed's consistency (and wins) to deal with.

The cagey Frenchman was at it again in Millville, except this time he didn’t win either moto. In the 2nd go-round he seemed to be stalking Dungey like he’d done to so many other riders in the past, and the battle royale between the two title favorites was shaping up nicely as they rounded the rough, sandy circuit for several laps within a second or two of one another. Sadly, Pourcel made a mistake on lap 9 that dropped him way back behind Dungey (17 secs according to the transponders), yet his lead over Barcia in 3rd was plenty big enough to enable him to remound his KX250F and cruise home for 2nd in the moto and 2nd overall. He maintains the series points lead by a scant 5 over Dungey heading into Washougal this weekend.

Speedy Reedy was back to his old self at Millville, although it did appear that Josh Grant had the best of him in that first moto. Mr. Consistency Reed, though, followed it up with a win in moto two while Grant floundered around in the pack after falling in turn one. Reed extended his points lead to 38 after his 2-1 at Millville, which at the halfway point in the series, just about puts him out of reach for the title (barring any unforeseen difficulties, of course).

Track owner's son and solid top 20 privateer Alex Martin got a sweet shot at a satellite team ride, hopping on Trey Canard's bike for at least this round. Alex went 8-12 for 11th overall - or about 8-10 spots better than usual.

Weimer fell back to a pretty conservative 6-7 on the day, after winning a couple of overalls just a few weeks ago. He ran 5-7th for the duration of both motos for 6th overall.

Reed looks to be a solid bet for the championship at this point, despite occasional flashes of brilliance by the other factory guys in the field. Andrew Short's the closest in points, but he's now 38 points back going into the final half of the series.

It’s a long and tough season, and for a rookie in the premier class, JGR Yamaha’s Josh Grant is putting up one hell of a show for his sponsors. Unfortunately, the highs are leveled out by the lows and this weekend was no different. After catching, passing and dropping Reed in moto one for the win, Grant found himself in the sandy Minnesota soil in the first turn for moto two, and about dead last starting lap one. His charge was fairly impressive, but a 9th isn’t going to be good enough to compete with a rider the likes of Chad Reed – or even Ivan Tedesco and Andrew Short – this season. After a great ride at the previous round at Red Bud where he went 2-1, many expected Grant to repeat at Spring Creek. Here’s hoping he can put together next weekend what he’s always been lacking, and that’s consistency.

Millville's known for a lot of things, not the least of which is the huge and awesome step-up going up the hill after the whoop section.

Metcalfe continues to battle with the rookie Barcia, and in the process typically finds himself in the top 5. The veteran Aussie Lites rider looked great at Millville going 4-4 to Barcia's 3-3.

Double-moto 250 class winner Ryan Dungey absolutely freakin’ dominated at his home track. After he and points leader Pourcel made quick work of fast-starter Justin Barcia in the 2nd moto, as the two ran off from the rookie right away. Dungey dominated both motos, winning them by 30+ seconds, and making the hometown crowd feverish with delight. Dungey gained 3 poitns on Pourcel, who ended up 2nd overall via his 2-2 moto scores.
