Ryan Villopoto left a lot of people picking their jaws up off the ground in Vegas. After pushing Stewart in their heat race, in the main event he managed to chase him down, drop him and check out for an uncontested win. It was an impressive display, despite the fact that James may have been in damage-minimization role. There is no question that Reed was going as fast as he could, and for the first third of the race, it sure looked like Stewart may have been too, but RV showed he had their speed and more in an impressive win.

Chris Pourcel won the shootout the same way he won a bunch of East races - he let the race come to him. Trey Canard was the mouse in this instance, and the cat slowly pulled him in and got around. This attracted another cat, however, and his name was Ryan Dungey. RD10 ran Pourcel's pace for half of the race but never was able to push for the win.

Blake Wharton nabbed the holeshot but was chased down by a slew of riders, namely Trey Canard and Chris Pourcel. He eventually fell down and ended up 11th.

The Lites West champ moved up from a mediocre start and made a push for the lead that lasted the entire race, up to the checkered flag when he just barely missed catching Pourcel. One more lap? Doesn't matter, it ended, and Pourcel got the Tundra.

Jake Weimer and Jake Moss had a good battle going, as Moss was heading backwards and Weimer toward the front. Moss was in the middle of a bunch of battles throughout the main, but eventually ended up 8th.

Wharton and Canard lead the charge early in the race, with Wharton eventually giving up the top spot on the 2nd lap. Canard went on to lead for the next 11 laps, eventually giving it up to both Pourcel and Dungey to finish 3rd.

We had picked Weimer as the winner of the shootout, but a bad start made him a non-factor for the win. Jake rode hard though, and was the 2nd best Monster/Pro Circuit pilot, ending up in 4th at the end.

Chris was one happy camper after his win, and displayed more emotion after this win than he did even after winning his championship in Toronto. With this, he carries a nice bit of momentum and positive thought into the Nationals, which may spell disaster for the competition.

Stroupe was not a factor, despite winning his heat easily earlier in the night. With a back of the pack start, Stroupe found himself battling for every position as he pushed for the lead and eventually found himself in the middle of a Monster/PC trio that was led by Weimer and tailed by Morais. The 3 went 4-5-6.

The two champs take a moment to show their mutual respect, which was clearly pretty high since previously if either of them got beat they tended to pout a little bit. It was an exciting Shootout, that much is for sure.

James Stewart, shown here chasing Mike Alessi (not shown) launching off the Thunder Alley single, which was a spectacular way for the riders to enter the stadium. Stewart made quick work of getting past Alessi, and had everyone in the stands preparing to yawn the rest of the race. They predicted wrong.

When Mikey got up front it looked like the cards would possibly play into Reed's hands for the race and championship. Alessi wasn't riding so well in Vegas though, and all day seemed to be suffering, which meant he quickly dropped out of position to help his teammate in any way.

As James made his way past one half of Team Rockstar/Makita Suzuki, he must have thought it was going to be business as usual.

Just when James may have been feeling comfortable, Villopoto began forcing the pace and pushed his way past on the beginning of lap 3.
