Where to stay in CA?/USA trip

Hey everyone,
I haven´t been online for a long time but now I´m back
I plan a trip to the USA for the first time and would be very pleased if you could give some advice concerning different details.

Firstly I need a hotel/motel. As far as I can see Motel6 seems to be the best possibility for me. It shouldnt be to expensive because i´d like to stay 3-4 weeks.
Do you know any other hotel which you could recommend?

Secondly Im still not sure in which city I want to stay...
It should be located in socal and close to tracks/ freeride areas. Google didn´t help me to much in this aspect.

Thanks, Niko.

There is a small little town of 25,000 in the Mojave dessert of California that I would like to recommend. Its called Ridgecrest. Yes it has a track although not that great of one. The big benefit however is that this little town is an amazing riding playground. There is no need to even load your bike in a truck to take it to a riding area. Basically the front yard leads anywhere. There are mountains for hill climbing, high speed trails, natural whoops for miles, and plenty of natural jumps.

I realize this might not be near a major cities, but if its riding you want. this place has it all. It does get really hot during the summer though.

good luck.

Try to go to Glenn Helen. San Bernardino CA. Great track and plenty of people to point you in the right direction.

What time of year are you planning to come to Cali?

For moto purposes, Corona is the place.

All of the factory team test tracks are there, and several open to the public practice tracks are a short drive.

Depending on what time of day you get on the freeway in Corona, you can get to the beach, Disneyland, Hollywood, and many other tourist attractions in under an hour.

Also, hotels are cheap in Corona, because nobody wants to stay there!

Thanks for your replies! I didn´t expect to get any after the first days of silence.
I would like to come to CA between this september and summer next year.
I heard already a few times that Glen Helen is supposed to be one of the best riding areas... But Corona sounds also interesting. Personally I´m really interested in freeriding because that´s hardly possible in Germany.

Do these cities also offer opportunities for your "non riding" time? Are there big communites of riders?
... Probably I´ll come alone and of course I don´t want to spend 6 weeks alone in the desert.

Edit: Sorry Motogeezer, I just noticed you already mentioned some typical tourist atrractions ;)

Ridgecrest is a great place for open trail and desert riding...I go every year in Feb with a group of friends and it is awesome...you can ride for 100 miles in almost any direction and not hit anything...plus the weather is beautiful that time of year. SoCal is great for tracks and other tourist type activities...I would suggest starting there...and Ridgecrest is only a few hours away...Keep posting on sites like this and you are sure to find some riding buddies.

Update:
Finally I bought my tickets.
At first I´ll fly to Madison, Wi on the 28th of october.
I stay there at a friends house (Sven Krause, Th ones of you who are here for a longer period of time remember him) for about 2 weeks and visit another friend in Illinois .
On the 10th of november I fly over to San Diego and stay untill the 24th.
Probably´I´ll rent a car and try to see as much as possible of socal and its tracks. Unfortunately bringing my own bike to the US is way to expensive, maybe I´ll book a guided tour together with a bike for 2/3 days .
If anybody is interested to meet , has some advice or something feel free to contact me, I would be pleased.

Niko
