2 strokes

4 strokes have massive engine brake (the engine slows it self down when you let go of the gas)

and in the air, that would cause you to nose dive

and no you dont have to mix gas for 4 strokes, but since you dont know how todo that, i would not reccomend a 4 stroke, they are very complex and harder to work on,

2 strokes are easier and simple, but even to you will be very hard to work on

get a 2 stroke, the manual,

and learn how to ride very well befor you go and try your best travis pastrana impersonation and break your neck

Also, I just started jumping at a newly built ramp, and it took me about 5 minutes before i could do no footers, one footers, one handers , lookbacks and i almost did a knack knack.
WOW! This turned out well.

I was just going to mention that a couple weeks ago I was talking with Mike Metzger at the Xtremy awards, while they were showing footage of him back-flipping a 450F.

He say's the four stroke works great for freestyle, and he really likes it.

If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, and didn't hear it right from Metz himself, I would never have believed it.

I think all bikes both 2 and 4-stroke have a powerband, just 2-strokes have a "powerband hit". Sorry I just had to say that as I never understood the whole powerband idea until like a month ago there was a thread on this.

OK to get the records straight It IS spelled nacnac it's cancan spelled backwards. @ leave the kid alone, it was kind of a dumb remark but I remember asking questions like that when I was younger. And not to sound like a d!(k but I'm a pro fmx rider. I used to say 2 stroke all the way but the 4 banger has come a long way. Guy's are doing flip TRICKS with them. It's all preffrence now. I still prefer a 2. About the riding 4 5 years and not knowing about wich you have 2 premix I also call BS. Or you never got close to a 4 stroke in your life, wich is rare do to the fact lawnmowers are 4 strokes. You guy's need to chill. It was a simple newbi question. I hope I don't make anyone mad. Just calling it like I see it.

Im not a "freestyler" but i do muck around a bit with jumping at the local track and mates private tracks. i hopped off a 125 onto a rmz450 in january this year.
in regards to which i prefer, the 450 hands down. Apart from leaving a bit of trailing/not shutting off the throttle, the 450 whips better, and it seems to me you don't need to be as focused on the jump as much as you do on a 125.
So, if you have the choice and i was in your position, definatly a fourstroke. But then you MAY have issues with engine work sooner or later which is big $$.

4-strokes have power band from the second you turn the throttle i reckon you could use 4-Strokes and 2-Strokes in FMX theres an FMX team here in Melbourne called Empire Freestyle team and they ride 2-strokes and 4-strokes so its possable that professional FMX could start riding both machines
