Got em! I went with the crf450, and got the cr85 for my son. No problems carrying them in my small Nissan either. Took the 5 hour drive to Springfield, MO..... It was worth the drive at lease in my case. Got the 450 (05) for 6200 OTD, and the 85 for 2000 OTD (03 new). No tax. I plan on ordering the service manuals ASAP. If there is anything I SHOULD do to these bikes right from the start, let me know. I can't wait to take em out.

On the crf, there pretty much fast out of the shop. But i recommend getting a aftermarket air filter. On the 85, once agian an air filter, and if your going to race or your son simply thinks it isn't fast enough get a aftermarket pipe and silencer. Also if your going to race get some reed valves.

Nice! I'm happy you finaly got your bikes and are happy! I would change the oil (stock stinks), also set both the bikes rear shock sag after you ride it for a few hours.
Make sure to use good motorcycle oil. And make sure you use good premix in your sons bike, also use a ratio rite cup. The service manuals will help you alot.
Make sure you two are all geared up and go for it!

Thanks for the info, will do. I just read the owner's manual and didn't realize it was so in depth...good deal. I will still get the service manual.
Thanks again,

Whenever you get a new bike or a bike from someone else look the bike over well. Change the gearbox oil, get the right gas in it, aftermarket filter, tire pressure and all the good stuff. In my service manual it has a regualar adjustement schedule to do which is helpful. Good job on the bike and have fun.

I dont know about Honda, but every Suzuki I've bought came with a factory service manual.
Hit the salesman up for one, I'll bet he gives it to you.
Congrats, and enjoy!

I never thought I would want to go back, but they had to pull that 85 out of the warehouse and get it ready....so we went to bass pro. It was HUGE. Too bad I had no money to spend....they have everything.......except mx stuff
Anyway, the guy told me it would cost about 35 for the service manual, and I argued about some 100 fee that they tacked on for shipping.....they initially told me only a 65 paperwork fee...and I verified this 3 or 4 times before making the drive....so I don't think he would give it to me, it should be stock on any race bike.
I still have no gear except some goggles, boots, and gloves. It is hard to find anyone local that has all the stuff with any sizes. I can already tell i'll have to order online, unless anyone knows of a place in Dallas that has a good stock of stuff.

I paid 6200 OTD no tax, about 1500 less than what they are asking locally. Sounds like you got a good deal, where did you get yours?
also, the 03(new) cr85 was 1799, 2000 OTD.

Helmets?
Go to a Cycle Gear (i know they have 1 in dallas). THey have EVERYTHING.
Or just go online (if you order from an online place you will save at least $250 if you buy everthing, and you can send anything back that doesn't fit and they will get you the right size)
I would order your Helmet, Boots, Goggles, chest protector,knee/shin pads, and jersy and pants online. like at www.motosportoutlet.com , www.BTOsports.com , www.motocrossgiant.com .
I orderd a ton of new gear from motocross giant and i saved almost $250.

I know, I think the helmets would be priority.
Where we got the bikes, we just picked up a few things that fit, they had no inventory at all with the helmets. Looking at motogiant, I might try to get the package deal as cheap as possible and upgrade later to better stuff.

They have great package deals. With everything for a good price.
Just make sure you protect them brains!

I'm surprised nobody has said this yet. It's important to tear down a new bike and take a look at all the bearings- steering head, linkage, suspension, etc. The factory really slacks off with greasing these bearings. In most cases you should repack all of them with grease before you even start to ride the bikes.
