i dont think he has the ability to do it is what im saying. no offense Sven, its just harder than it seems, i mean. they call it factory for a reason...but hey, who knows, maybe he will blow my socks off with something better than the factories make.

I glass my sufboard when i'm at my dads (repairs) its much like it. I Also glassed a skin board.

As long as you take your time and have the right tools...

But sven will need to back it for a few min at 150 degrees so that it will not contract and expand once its on the bike.

-Smarts
-and PATIENTS
I am sure sven can do it he will just have to take his time and do it right with the right tools.

If you do it properly dude, Im sure you could start making them and selling them on ebay and people would definitly buy them. Good luck man. If it works, I would start selling the things.

If you use the right kind of epoxy it will not do this.

By 150 degrees what do you mean? Most epoxy's FLASH POINT (meaing burning temp) is around 90 degrees, anything more would result in flames.

Also, regarding if I will be able to do it or not. I'll be honest with you, I don't know. I've built other things out of carbon (the beginners turned out bad, now my work is good) however never anything round. I mean I can't set any deadlines on by when it will be done but I hope to have it done by May.

90 degree's??? that means it would melt or start on fire in the sun...not to mention what it would do on the bike!

I didn't know if it was like fiberglass car parts. Like with fiberglass car pannels, they will bake them at a temp that it will never see again (like 140 degrees) for a few minutes, so all of the shrinking is taken care of.

What grade and density of carbon are you going to use Sven?

Carbon reaches superior ( comapred to 150 degrees ) temperature's while going through a number of processes like oxidation, carbonisation and heat treatment, it can see temperatures up to 10,000C and more, so I can't imagine 150C hurting it - depending on your epoxy resin of course. !

I'm using 5.7 ounce 2X2 twill weave.

Regarding the epoxy I will play around with test strips till I find a satisfactory one.

Also, I meant a wet-flash point of 90ish degrees. I will heat treat and not heat treat pieces and see how they turn out. Heck, working with round tubes is something I haven't done before so it's abit of a learning expeirence for myself as well.

No worries, I won't let anything leave my adress (unless to specified testers) until ALL the bugs are worked out.

Sven, not to dishearten you bud, but you have you work cut out for you dude lol, and I wish you the best of luck in making it.

My brother had a 1995 CR125 that had a full work's DEP pipe including the carbon / kevlar end can, it was a piece of art!

Oh and Josh, if you have a Pro Circuit pipe I'll guarentee it's not carbon fibre unless someone has made a one off - you can't buy the factory stuff.
