Hey guys. Was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. I've got a 2007 KX250F with stripped threads on the oil drain plug hole. Now I've spoke with a couple people about this and they've given my three options.

Option 1 - Drill out the whole and install a heli-coil (dont have any experience with this and would prob have to pay to get it done)

Option 2 - Look for an oversized self tapping oil plug (probably not as good as a heli-coil, but much cheaper and i could do it myself)

Option 3 - Have someone split the case, weld over the oil hole in the bottom of the block, and drill and tap a new hole (prob pretty expensive)

Has anyone had a similar problem? and what would you reccomend i do about this? I want it to be done probably. i dont want to loose all my oil mid race and fuck my bike.....

I would recommend selling the pig and getting a Two-Stroke.

That being said, any of your listed options will work fine. Just make sure to flush out the bottom end after doing any of them and BEFORE starting the ending again. Don't even kick it over. If you get any metal shavings/grit into the oil, you can and will toast the engine.

Thats what I did on an 05 250f, it seemed to work well.

Listen to what Steve is telling you, flush the best you can. Also, invest in a Torque Wrench 20-200 IN/LBS. Overtightening this stuff will strip everything. Your forks is another good spot for a torque wrench.

Doing a heli-coil is pretty easy dude, I bet you could figure it out on your own, that's the best way to learn.

Torque wrenches are good for some applications, but I wouldn't waste the time on an oil plug...just pay attention to what you are doing. If I'm using a ratchet I use an extension and hold it at the head of the ratchet with the extension between my index and middle finger. Holding it that way you have to really be trying to over tighten most bolts. I have put a lot of bikes back together that way.

Drill it out and put a larger bolt in it. I can say from experience and because my older is a Harley Davidson mastertech this is the easiest thing to do to take care of the problem and it will not have any problems what so ever. If your worried about the bolt falling(like I am but I worry about the the bolts in the handlebars falling out) you can put some lock tight on the bolt and the seal on that comes off with a little elbow grease.

i do the same thing... the blue "medium" locktite is great for that stuff , i pretty much use it on anything that i don't want coming loose.

a heli coil is a threaded insert.what you do is drill out the hole a tad biger then tap it then insert the heli coil into the threads in return you end up with the same size hole you started with so you can use the same screw or bolt.
