Alright so I'm 5'8'' and weigh between 145 and 150. I'm looking to get into MX but first I need to start riding. I'm in the service and just haven't had time, but my contract is almost up and I'm getting a bike. So my question.. what would you reccommend for a 1st time rider my size, keep in mind I learn quick when it comes to driving. Do you think 21 is too old to get into racing? Any additional tips would be appreciated. Oh, and should i look into 2 or 4 stroke?
Some people may disagree, but for your size and considering you are a new rider. I would suggest a 4 stroke 250.
You could very well ride a 450 but it would be too much bike for a new rider. Most of the pros that ride 250f's are your size or a touch smaller and can go really fast, and huck huge jumps.
Also a 250 4 stroke will coast you less. I was able to ride all of the different brand 2008 bikes this year and found that on the 250's I liked them all, but was exceptionally impressed with the Suzuki and the Honda.
As for racing you are never too old to start racing. If you expect to go pro and make a living from racing then I would say you are way too late. Most pro's get noticed before they are even sixteen years old. It takes years of practice and riding to really get up to speed on an mx bike.
But it only takes one day to have fun on a bike and fall in love with motocross forever. Be sure to always ride within you skill level and work your way up to doing advanced obstacles like the terrain you would find at a local track. It's more fun to ride another day than to be out for three months with a cast.
hey im kinda new to the sport and im 14 i started a year ago and i race on a 125 i think u should get a 250 4 stroke and see how u do for your age i think u could learn fast and become great in your town
Buy a year old 125. You'll love it, and you will learn so much. Then in a year go to the 250f.
You'll be a better rider if you do the 125 first. Throttle control and corners are more technical with the 2-stroke.
