i could be wrong

but in a 2 stroke, the higher the octane the better

in our 4 strokes, higher then the manul reccomends the hotter the engine will run, not better

(what makes vp 4 so much better isnt its octane, its the oxygen additives)

i think im right, but i wont say "im right" but im pretty sure i am
that is exactly what i thought, or at least was told. we could always be wrong though.

Yeah, what do us two-stroke faith guys know about thumpers?

I run 87 octane pump gas in my four-stroke weed-whacker.

Wow, that's incredible that the shop did that.

Whenever I have to go to my local shop (just for quick neccesities, everything else I order) all I get is a stern look, an agravated answer upon a question if they have something and a disgruntled sigh when I fork over the cash.

Our local shop is cool . I have met the owner, and saw him out riding one day. He's cool.

It's good to have a good relation with your shop... helps out a lot in the long run.

Glad to see you and your son can ride together.

Well, I might be more confused now then ever before about octane etc...

I am more concerned about engine protection. If I run 93, would a 50/50 race mix help my engine or just performance?

It will be awhile before I run that thing wide open at the track, as a matter of fact, I haven't even been to the track yet ,......just took it to my grandmas twice already(the only place i can even ride it within a 30 min. drive). I did a few small tabletop type jumps just to get the feel of what I was dealing with and it was sweet. I feel good in turns with this bike. As far as getting the wheels off the ground, I definately need some tips on how to approach/throttle a jump.....even small ones.... .

I was going to take some pics, but the wife ran off with the photographic picture taker machine

I've heard several times that some race fuels and pump fuel don't mix well. For all I know, it doesn't make sense.

If your bike is stock, it came from the manufacturer to run on the highest octane pump fuel available, reguardless if it's 2-stroke or 4. Here in California, that's 91. If you have the money & don't mind spending it, buy the race fuel & mix it 50/50, run it strait, whatever. Your bike will carburete cleaner, and run cooler. Just know that at least 91 octane pump fuel will not hurt your bike.

VP ultimate 4 is 92 octane, and it's specificaly for 4 stroke's so I'm assuming that higher octane doesn't do anything or 4 stroke's.

crack open your manual, and see what ir reccomends,

odds are its 91-93, stock, run what it reccomends, with that bike its not like you need that extra 2 hp vp 4 gives you

stock that bike makes 49hp,

run what it reccomends, race gas shouldnt even be in this topic

That is what I needed to know, thanks.

Ok, just one more thing....Is there any additive i.e. LEAD which would help my valves etc....like some kind of octane booter you see at auto zone/wal mart...

the only thing you ever want to use from walmart is wd-40..haha

never use a booster. That stuff is junk. Use pump 91-93. the best thing for your valves will be rutine check ups (adjustments)

God knows I don't need any boost with that beast....thanks for that info, i'll stay clear of Wal Mart, but already stocked up on wd40 LOL.

I ordered both manuals for the 85 and 450 from helms, shold be here shortly and I'll check the valves. Is this right about helms doing Honda's manuals or does Honda have another version for my 05??
