im a downhill rider and durt jumper
and if anyone stole my bike, there would be a price in his head
im trading my cr for a new frame and a bunch of parts (well over 3500$ worth by now and there will be more i think)
its gonna kick ass, its the blue 2004 dh9 frame, and soooooo many kick ass parts (this isnt a pic of my frame, just a same frame)
accept mine has a progressive 5th element shock with titainium spring (such a better shock by a long shot)
heres the part 1 of the valve trains article

thats a reallly good article except the the part about Multi cylinder F-1 and Indy car engines are toast after a 2-hour race of course indy cars are toast after a 2 hour race because they are running redline for almost 2 hours straight where-as a dirtbike (excluding 2 strokes) doesn't run redline for even very long. rarely does a dirtbike run for 2 hours straight except for those hardcore duners or offroaders. don't get me wrong, i loved the article, i just felt the need to straighten out that little part.
dude you should email eric gorr and point out his mistake!!

keep on top of your valve ajustments, it has alot todo with how the engine lasts,
but what it dont show is other valve train wear thats just as bad,
vavle springs, vavle seats, chain tensioner, the chain itself, etc etc
but the vavles are a good indication, keep on top of that and you can usally spot problems befor they come up

Valid question, probably deserves a little more information than; "You do that."
Do 4 strokes last longer than 2 strokes? (Generically speaking, if ridden the same, treated right, etc.)

If you start by figuring that we are talking race machines here (YZ vs YZf for ezample, not XR and DT), and then figure that you maintain both machines properly for a race machine, and then figure just the engines as the frame and running gear are negligible in this comparison...
The four-stroke engine and the Two-Stroke engine will go approximately the same length of time between rebuilds under the same rider. The faster the rider, and the harder that rider runs the engine, the less time there will be between rebuilds.
