That's exactly why you cut off the end and stick it into the grip, so theres no wire hanging out to stick in you. Our racing club won't let you ride if you have no safety wire on the grip's, beside's, if it's good enough for EVERY single Pro AMA MX/SX rider to wire their grip's, then it's good enough for me.

ive heard this quater/nickle trick b4 but i dont understad it at all. can you explain it more, or possibly get pics? thnx

I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about timmy, but I'm assuming you're talking about putting a nickle or quarter on the end of the bar under the grip?

If you are, it's really just a case of putting coin on the end of the bar and slipping the grip over it. All it does really is stop's the grip from breaking up as easy.

If that's not what you are talking about let me know, tell me what you're talking about and I'll see if I can help.

What about a guide? Certain type of wire, how many wraps, and how many times around?

Yup, a nickel fits in the left grip, a quarter in the right.

I never glue my grips anymore. I used to and ended up buying throttle tubes everytime I changed the grips. I just use safety wire, unless you get your grips wet, they will hold perfectly. They are made to make a suction when you put them on, thats why they are hard to put on. With the suction and safety wire you should be fine.

I used wd40 to get it on, and I tried pulling them off again and they wont budge... i would think theyd slip right back off.

That's a strange one, does WD40 have cellulose in it? That's the chemical that makes it stick and why paint work's.

I thought WD40 would have slipped off like you said.

not sure why it works, but we used to do it with our bicycles. spray a lil WD in the grips, slide on and wait a few. someone said it made the grip shrink? but i dont know. i wont do it on my dirtbike though.

On Renthals there is a little groove right before the flange. I put wire in there too. I just got some standard wire from a hardware store that looked decent.

I did 2 wraps then twisted it where my hand doesn't ever touch (around the bottom--sit on the bike and see where a good spot would be and mark it with a sharpie. Cut a nice long pice of wire so you have something to hold on to. Then do 2-3 wraps, and twist it where your mark with the sharpie was. Just twist it around 2 or 3 times to it holds together and using needle nose pliers, push the sharp end (where the ends meet-the part you just twisted) into the grip so it's not going to cut your hand. Do this 2 or 3 times along your grip and you'll be set. Put a quarter in your throttle grip and a nickel in the clutch side grip so if you fall it won't rip though and damage the grip. To get them on I use contact cleaner. You have to slide them on quick because the cleaner will evaporate really quickly and make them stick right where they are.

Good luck and may the force be with you.

Tip: Don't have the wire too tight because it can cut through your grip (especially soft grips)

FIM does NOT require safety wire . What organization are you racing under ?? I'm sure you are much more experienced , have a better education , have raced longer , have built National calibre engines , and probably know everything there is to know about bikes . By the way , how old are you ??

Why the f*ck do people do that on me, everytime I'm in an argument people say thing's to me as if it's a quote. I will say to you what I say to other's, tell me where I said the FIM requires grip's to be wired.

Are you going to stomp I've done this and I've done that BS all over me?

People like you can be idiot's sometimes, you have so much knowledge that you shove it done people's throat's like an ass. I don't give two sh*t's what you have or haven't done, it mean's jack to me, so stop drowning me with it. Also, nice attitude to take dude, you don't like some one's opinion, think you're right then come off with the usual garbage, "I'm sure you're much more experienced bla bla bla", heard it too many times. Why do people do that? "You must know everything about bike's", Why? Just because I've proved grip's are worth wiring and you don't like it? Take a hike and grow up, for all the knowledge you seemingly have, you're not alway's going to be right, you have to deal with that.

Lastly, what has my age got to do with it? You are going to say the usual BS again about being younger and not knowing as much are you? Age mean's nothing - to a point obviously, there's youger kid's out there that probably know twice as much as you! If you really want to know how old I am, I'm 20 and don't know anywhere near as much about bikes as some people do on here, but ~I know enough to be able to run and maintain a bike on my own.
