In my opinion dying the fibre look's crap. The natural Kevlar colour is like a dirty white colour, almost like a tan!

Here's a pic of Kevlar beside carbon fibre:

Is that what their silencer is made out of instead of the aluminum?

Yeah mate, give me a few minutes and I'll try and hunt down a pic of the silencer.

Best pic I could find is too dark to see, but you can make out that it isn't standard, here's the pic.

I can see the difference. Is the difference of the silencers in performance or just looks?

Not really, i think that the works shorty may have a different dimple pattern on the inside of the silencer. But the carbon does nothing but save weight.

And look insane

It does look pretty sweet. Was teneighty planning on building the outside for his r304 silencer?

Yeah I think Brian is right, but all the carbon/kevlar do is save wright - as he said.

And yes, Sven is going to attempt to make one ( or possibly a few ) carbon PC r304 silencer's. I guess he could do other brand's too if you asked nicely. The shipping would be cheaper on the return for sure lol.

Alrighty guys, reply time.

So after ALOT of PM's I notice people are actually noticing. Also a few confusions to clear up.

First off, Brian, a 1X1 sheet of the carbon/kevlar wouldn't bring you far, for a 5 ounce 2X2 twill you'll probably need about 5 "circles" or sheets of kevlar to make it strong enough for an exhaust pipe.

Regarding the quality of it, it's good, I'm actually planning (yet another project, this summer) to build a one-off carb/kevlar hood for my pop's SSR. However with kevlar you need to pick the right weave and weight for different applications (abit difficult).

Also, I think it was NYorkrider who I told I wasn't going to be making carbon/kevlar pipes in special colors, well I take that back, I CAN I guess.

It will cost more, costs I have NOT yet totaled up however don't be expecting 20-30 dollars. Understand that for carbon fiber processing you need alot of time, resin ($$$), carbon fiber ($$$), kevlar ($$$), and other supplies. Also, I know there will be some of you who find some odd-auction on eBay, I've bought those, turned out to be crappy carbon, poor weave in other words I'm not buying those.

I trust the stuff from FibreGlast (know the guys well by now) and by US Composites (know them as well), these companies will be the ones I will be most likely be using.

Another thing, my mind gets off track quickly and easily, keep reminding (NOT NAGGING!) me to remember to get this started (As some of you know I start 100 projects at once and try to finish them in random order).

So, prices won't be able to be found out till perhaps wednesday (business' are closed till monday and I still have to make some phone calls, ect)

Well keep us updated on the project. Sounds difficult but worth it. I actually thought about doing it myself but am still not sure of the extent of the project and if its within my ability. What certain things do you need to build it? Such as tools, machinery, etc.

It really depends. The cheap way you just need a clean place, resin spreaders, resin, carbon fiber and the right molds. However it is harder than it seems.

True that!

Don't set off and try to build something difficult, different product's need different laying patterns etc for strength reason's, it's not just a matter of getting a mould and laying carbon in there.

Sven, do you have the equipment to bake product's?
