alright i found that my carb had a 240 !! main jet. the manual called for eather 260 or 280 main jet. So I tried both and I decided to go with the 280. Less lean, and could finally start. I took out the pug to read it lastnight and right at the tip of the spark plug it has a tint of white. Do you think I should go up one size bigger on the main ? I have boyesen reeds and Uni filter and wiseco in it.

The tip of the spark plug only indicates heat range.

For jetting info, you need to read the base of the insulator beneath the threads.

Look for the thread about spanky's jetting guide, and follow it's instructions.

I agree with Steve , but , if the tip is white , you are too lean . What ratio are you mixing at ? What oil ? Is the ring on the plug (outer portion around the bottom of the threads ) black , brown , gray , or white ? A plug will tell you several different things .

for the main jet.....

if im not mistaken, jetting tends to cover the entire plug,so if all your jets are to lean/rich,it will show up over the entire plug

but for the main jet you have to look at the bottem of the insulator...

MXR, How long have you been alive? 13 years? how long has Steve been wrenching on bikes? 20 or more years. I know alot about bikes, and I do not argue with steve. And when I do it's usually pointing out something stupid. Don't argue! haha

like iv been experimenting with the jetting on this bike. When i was building it the carb had a 240 main jet, no wonder it ran like crap, so i got the manual and it said eather a 260 or a 290. I tried the 260 and he plug was kinda white like i was saying, i switched to the 290, plug is nice and crisp. Thanks any ways guys. !

Too many "kids" on here trying to give advice , when they should just be listening . I've been wrenching for 30 years , building race engines for well over 20 years . I still learn , but , not by talking .

Ah, you guys need to calm down a little. I think its okay if he says stuff as long as some one corrects him. He will learn quicker, and better that way because he will remember the incident. Just hopefully no one follows his advice if its not correct .

I dont get why people jet to their plug? I jet by feeling and its pretty obvius if it sounds wrong or right.. Trial and erroe is the key I think. If you make a mistake you learn from it big deal.

look what you started derek

calm down...

i got that from spankys jetting guide...it said look to the bottem of the insulator for the main jet, didnt say that about the other jets

i say stuff, even thought i know im wrong,or if im not sure,to get corrected

its like,if you dont ask for help, then your not gonna get it,unless your obviously in need

i never try to argue with steve, mabey, because we are online(you cant hear the experssion in my voice,or see the expression on my face) it may seem like im arguing, when really its more of a commenting question kind of thing...

brian...just chill

once again derek,im not arguing, calm down
