The Game of Musical Motocross Riders: Teams hunt talent for the Nationals
With the Outdoor National Motocross Championship less than a month away and the final supercross of the year pending this weekend, there is a lot going on.
-We are all waiting on hot embers to see if in fact Stewart is going to jump ship mid-season and change brands. Because of contracts he is probably not allowed to speak of such change until after the SX season is over. This means we expect a big announcement late Saturday night or early Sunday morning. Since JGR is saying nothing about JS riding outdoors and JS is tweeting he will be at Hangtown, we can deduce he might be on a Suzuki with Red Bull backing and parked under the tent with Brett Metcalfe.
-Stewart is not the only rider that is going to be moving around before Hangtown. Word has it Tommy Hahn will fill in for Trey Canard under the Honda tent with Justin Brayton. If Stewart leaves JGR, that opens a spot on their team that will need to be filled, Kyle Regal’s name is one that has been tossed around.
-With Ryan Villopoto out for the season, Kawasaki has to fill a spot aboard a 450. It looks very likely Tyla Rattray will make his return on a Factory 450 and team up with Jake Weimer.
- With teams like TLD and Pro Circuit, both camps have riders hurt or nursing injuries and bikes that need riders. If Rattray rides a 450, this leaves another spot open for PC. Rumor has it since Ivan Tedesco has a supercross-only deal, there is a chance he could drop down and ride a 250 for PC. As for TLD, they have hired the likes of Billy Laninovich to ride their 250 in Vegas and then jump on a 450 for the Outdoor Nationals.
-Chad Reed’s Two Two team will probably park their rig for the summer since he will not be back to speed any time soon. Not to mention their hired gun for the summer, Ben Townley, busted up his shoulder before his debut. Reed has mentioned that not racing will end up being more cost effective than racing.
