Meet Team MCR/Smartop 2013

Alessi, Canada, and Faith ready to race

Meet Team MCR/Smartop 2013

Following their best season ever, Team MCR/Smartop is geared up and decked out in brand new colors for 2013. Team captain Mike Alessi had his best season in years and proved that you don’t always need Factory backing to be a contender. Alessi finished 2nd in the 450 Outdoor Championship and 6th in Supercross during the 2012 racing season.

The team just unveiled their all-new look for 2013 and a three-rider lineup for the year. Mike Alessi will be contesting the 450 Supercross and Outdoor season, while Jake Canada and Gavin Faith will be aboard 250 machines racing opposite coasts in the 250 East/West Championships. Looks like Canada will ride the Outdoor Nationals in the 250 division, while Faith will likely only ride 250 Supercross.

The team has been working nonstop to get ready for A1 via improving their race bikes and physical prowess on the track. Alessi is technically racing a Suzuki, while Canada and Faith are on Hondas, but the team calls them MCRs. Smartop Covers is a new main sponsor of the team for 2013 and this is part of the new look on the big rig and the sweet-looking white and red machines. Smartop is a spa cover by Leisure Concepts that is said to last the life of the spa without falling apart like traditional spa covers.

Alessi claims to be racing the same bikes he rode in 2012 yet with many improvements. The biggest change is with regard to the suspension—the team will be running Öhlins fork and shock. These are some very trick components but also available to the public, if desired, for the right price. Öhlins will have a tech at the races and the famed Clark Jones of Noleen J6 will also be working with the team’s suspension.

Team owner Mike Genova talks about the 2013 season, the new look, and sponsors.

MCR is proud to be a smaller team but with a big presence. Tony Alessi (Mike’s father) will again act as team manager along with helping develop the machines. FMF, JT, MotoGraphics, and Shoei helmets are all backing the team for 2013 to name a few of the main players.

The team has hopes of strong performances, podium finishes, wins, and even a possible title in either the 250 East/West or 450 class. Mike was a consistent SX rider in 2012 and one of three riders that scored points in all 16 rounds, not to mention he is the holeshot king.

Look for Team MCR/Smartop in the pits and on the track in 2013.
