LA County Fair FMX
What went down at the ASA FMX World Championships at the LA County Fair.
The LA County Fair is one of the biggest such annual fairs in the country, as should be expected for a county that almost 10 million people call home. On the final Saturday night of the 2011 LA County Fair, the horse-track infield was taken over by the ASA FMX World Championships.
In the elimination format, in front of a standing-room-only crowd, some of the top freestylers in the country took to the course.
After the first elimination round, Czech Republic’s Libor Podmol, Lance Coury, Myles Richmond and local boy Wiley Fullmer were all eliminated.
In the semi-finals, Metal Mulisha teammates Rob Adelberg, from Australia, and Todd Potter faced off first, with Adelberg eking out the win over Potter, who aggravated a wrist injury in practice.
The second head-to-head face-off in the semis was between Metal Mulisha’s Taka Higashino, and Dustin Miller. Miller held his own in the battle, but Higashino’s tricks were bigger, and he eliminated Miller and headed to the final to face Metal Mulisha teammate Adelberg.
Potter was credited with third overall by virtue of his semi-final score, while Miller finished fourth.
In the final, Adelberg came in with the higher score, so Higashino went first, and he put down a solid run. Adelberg couldn’t match it, and Higashino took the win over Adelberg, making it officially a Metal Mulisha 1-2-3 sweep of the event.
