Interview: Jake Weimer

08.18.2011 // 0 Comments

Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jake Weimer also benefited a ton from the team’s switch from the 2011 Kawasaki KX450F to the 2012 model before Unadilla. At Unadilla, he was competitive with the top group of racers, including Ryan Dungey, Chad Reed, and the rest. We caught up with him after the race about his improvement.

Interview: Justin Barcia

08.17.2011 // 4 Comments

It seems like, over the past couple of years, Team Honda has been borrowing a lot of riders from the GEICO Honda satellite team. Last year, during supercross, Trey Canard was called up for a half-dozen races, and then outdoors Kevin Windham filled in for a while. This year, Windham filled in for a while outdoors again, and now that Trey Canard is hurt again, GEICO Honda’s Lites East SX champ Justin Barcia got called up to try his hand at 450cc racing. And he went 3-3 for third overall in his first try.

Interview: Grant Langston

08.08.2011 // 0 Comments

The plan had been put in place for weeks that Valli Motorsports Yamaha’s Nick Wey and Ricky Dietrich would both take part in the Super Lite class at the Glen Helen rounds of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series with backing from team sponsor Rockstar Energy Drink, but at the last minute Wey – who was only going to be able to race Saturday’s round anyway because of sponsor commitments to sign autographs in Texas on Sunday – decided to sit the race out because his back was bothering him. And in stepped Grant Langston.
Langston is a versatile racer. In addition to AMA Motocross and World Motocross championships, Langston used to race speedway back home in South Africa, and he has a Super Moto title to his name as well. It’s hard to think of a guy better suited to do what he was asked to do, which was to jump in and race a truck having never even driven it before. His hot lap before the race was his first time ever jumping a four-wheel vehicle (on a closed course, anyway).
We caught up with him today to get his take on things. Here’s what he had to say about his first time auto racing.

Interview: Mike Mason

08.03.2011 // 1 Comment

Mike Mason was denied a spot anywhere at X Games 17 and it took a social-media firestorm to get him an official invite just to do Speed & Style. And then he almost won. On the track, he did win, but his friend Nate Adams took the gold by virtue of his stronger tricks. We caught up with Mason while he was working on his YZ250 in his garage – in 100-degree weather in Las Vegas – today to get his perspective on things.

Interview: Trey Canard

07.22.2011 // 0 Comments

Team Honda’s Trey Canard fractured his femur while testing for this 2011 AMA National season, which caused him to miss the first half of the series, but he’s back now. He returned to action in Millville and immediately set fastest time in qualifying and then ended up with a podium finish overall. We caught up with him after the race to get his take on the day.

Interview: Chad Reed

07.19.2011 // 11 Comments

Lucas Oil/AMA Pro Motocross Championship points leader Chad Reed was having a great day in Millville, Minnesota; having dominated the first moto from start to finish, he had just taken the lead from championship rival Ryan Villopoto in the second moto when disaster struck. In what was probably the scariest crash in the history of the sport, Chad Reed was flung about four stories in the air without his motorcycle, and he not only survived, but finished the race and held onto the points lead. We caught up with him after the race.

Interview: Dean Wilson

07.07.2011 // 0 Comments

Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Dean Wilson is a funny dude. He’s also, obviously, quite fast. At RedBud, he went 2-2 for second overall, and he leads the 250cc points standings at the halfway point by 14 over teammates Blake Baggett and Tyla Rattray. We caught up with him afterward. Interview: Chad Reed

07.06.2011 // 0 Comments

TwoTwo Motorsports’ Chad Reed is having a banner year. Last year was his worst year as a professional motocross racer, but this year is turning into one of his best, and he’s doing it at nearly 30 years old and on his own team to boot. He won the overall at RedBud – his fourth overall win in the seven rounds run thus far – and pulled even farther ahead in the title chase, so we caught up with him afterward to get his take on it all.
