The Texas-based Hansen Racing Team supports top Lites rider Matt Lemoine, and Matt’s father, Bruce, is a driving force behind the team. John Mitchell has does the motor and suspension work on the team bikes, and HRT uses many of the same after market accessories that a lot of the teams use, like Talon hubs and wheels, FMF exhaust, Mika Metal bars and sprockets, Ride Engineering triple clamps 20mm offset, and EBC rotors and brakes.
One big difference on the HRT KX250F is the full-automatic Rekluse clutch, that Matt Lemoine says works really well for Supercross. According to Bruce Lemoine, the KX250F is a good, solid all-around bike for Supercross.
“The bike is pretty much production,” says Bruce Lemoine. “The cases are the same, we just do a little gear work – like we tumbled the gears to polish them, although it’s a stock transmission. We have a Falicon crank and it’s been balanced, and the head’s been redone with seats in it. We’ve also got cams in it and CP pistons. The motor is nothing fancy, because with our budget we had to build it not for peak horsepower but for reliability, because we can’t afford to blow it up every weekend. So we’re a little off on horsepower, but it’s not bad. We just try to get the best stuff we can for it, like buckets and cams.”
“As far as suspension, we’ve tested other stuff, but Matt likes the production stuff,” adds Lemoine. “Matt felt like the production stuff, the way we have it set up, works as good as other stuff on the market. Now for outdoors, it may be lacking a bit, but for Supercross, with a few minor changes in the damping rod, the production stuff is pretty good. Of course, we run different springs.”
Matt prefers a tighter turning bike, so he runs Ride Engineering triple clamps with 20mm offset, compared to 22mm for stock. The also use Suspension Direct linkages on the rear suspension, which is similar in specs to what most of the other teams are using. The different linkage drops the rear end a little and makes it track a little better.
Lemoine says they are more about making the chassis work rather than chasing down as much horsepower as possible.
