Factory Bike Friday: Andrew Short’s Chaparral L&Mc Racing Honda

Story and photos by Shan Moore

Shory's bike is a full-on factory bike.

According to team manager Larry Brooks, Andrew Short’s L&Mc Honda is a full-on factory bike, supplied by Honda, with aftermarket parts and minor modifications that cater to Shorty’s needs and style. Of course, it has all of the usual “factory” items, like factory Honda triple clamps and factory Showa suspension.

“The bike comes to us directly from Honda and the first thing we do it put an FMF exhaust system on it,” says Brooks. “But basically, it’s the same bike that the Muscle Milk guys are riding, we just have a few different sponsors like Vortex, which supplies our sprockets, where I think Muscle Milk has a deal with Renthal.”

Danny Bentley at Honda does the teams motors, with help from L&Mc Racing’s Jeremy Hoyer. “Danny is the developer of the engine, and then Jeremy helps with the development and then Jeremy rebuilds it every week,” says Brooks. “And as far as the suspension goes, we have Ricky Gilmore, who is our in-house suspension guy and he came from Factory Connection and he’s been great for the team. He does a lot of the development under the supervision of Shane Drew, the factory suspension guy.”

Short likes even power throughout the range.

As far as what Short likes in the bike, Brooks says he doesn’t like anything out of the norm, with a strong bottom end and good mid-range power. Basically, Shorty wants even power throughout the range with crisp hit.
