FULLERTON, CALIF.
– After over a year in the making, the iconic Bob “Hurricane” Hannah’s
story of his epic battle with National Champion Kent Howerton at
Saddleback Park in 1981 is coming to DVD. The release of “Bob Hurricane
Hannah’s 1981 Massacre at Saddleback” will be released on Friday May
22nd, online and at the first round of the Lucas Oil AMA Motocross
Championships at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, CA.
The 50-minute film is featured around actual video footage shot with
Bob’s Yamaha mechanic Keith McCarty’s early home video camcorder. Most
of Moto #1 and Moto #2 were shot featuring the dramatic on-track duel
between Hannah and Howerton leading up to the famous “T-Bone” Hannah
did to Howerton in Moto #1 and the fierce battle of Moto #2 where
neither man was more than two seconds apart and the lead changed
several times over the course of the now long extinct 45-minute moto
(today’s races are only 35 minutes).
In a unique format and perspective, Hannah himself color commentates
the film footage watching with the viewers and explaining what is going
on with himself, his rival Howerton, his over-weight Yamaha, the fans
etc. while fielding an occasional question from Director and Producer
of “The Motocross Files”, Todd Huffman.
“I’m just stoked the darn McCarty tape survived all this time.” said
Bob “Hurricane” Hannah, 7-Time National AMA Champion and Executive
Producer.
“We’ve been talking about this race for almost 30 years and now everyone can see it for themselves.” Hannah added.
“When we first saw clips of this footage during the production of Bob’s
MX-File, we knew that it could be a great stand alone production that
every moto fan past and present should see.” Said Todd Huffman,
Director/Producer.
“Working with Terri and Bob on this project has been a real honor and we hope everyone enjoys it.”. Huffman added.
“We’re thrilled with the final production and can’t wait for a whole
new generation of fans to be “Hannitized” because of this DVD.”
Mentioned Terri Hannah, Executive Producer and Producer of the film.
The DVD also features a bonus production of the 1981 Saddleback story
by the crew from “The Motocross Files” and features never before seen
interview footage from Bob Hannah and his longtime Yamaha mechanic and
friend, Keith McCarty. Additional bonus features on the DVD include the
trailer for the film, Hannah’s roast during the 2007 “One Chance to
Win” Premier and the promo for the “2008 Monsters of Motocross” charity
event where Bob Hannah was the Master of Ceremony.
The DVD will retail for $24.95 (plus S&H) and is available
exclusively at HannahRacingProducts.com or TheMotocrossFiles.com. A
trailer for the film is also available online at both sites.
