Larry Brooks, team manager for L&M San Manuel Yamaha has been taking a beating on the internet for a few years now. This is a guy who had a pretty good career as a pro rider himself and has rolled that into being one of the top race team managers. He has guided the worlds best with champions such as McGrath, Langston, Reed, and now James Stewart to name a few. I think it is fair to say that his resume has earned him the right to an opinion from the other side that most do not get to see.

Last week Brooks caused quite a stir by making a few comments about the podium speech that Broc Tickle gave after earning his first trip up to the box. His main complaint was that Tickle failed to (do the same ol’ boring podium speech) thank his sponsors, choosing only to name dog and girlfriend. Tickle was probably ecstatic about his result that evening and obviously hadn’t given much thought to what he might say in the event that he did podium, and what he said to the fans was heartfelt and appreciated by many.
We all appreciate a little something different as fans, but we aren’t paying his bills. If I had a financial interest in a team and one of the riders didn’t mention the company name on that podium there would be hell to pay. The family and girlfriend should already know they are appreciated. To top it off his girlfriend brings her little dog on the track. I have three dogs myself so it goes without saying that I love dogs, but to bring one down on the floor is beyond ridiculous. They need to bitch slap the security guy that allowed her down there with the it, and Broc should give his girl a good talk about the time and place for things.
In my opinion, Brooks has earned the right to say what he wants when it comes to our sport and Tickle better listen to him because he’ll be looking for a ride on the big bikes soon enough. You never know who you need to impress to score a ride like that... besides, girlfriends come and go. Am I right?
