I just got back from the MXoN and it was a blast. Like I've been blogging about, the MXoN is something that everyone should experience before they die.

The Americans won again for like the 8 millionth time (actually 19) but they kind of struggled. James went down and even when he was in the lead, he looked to be all business y'know? No scrubbing, no whipping the bike around. He looked like he was really just trying to put in some laps. Ryan Villopoto went down also, came back from like 26th and just about got English hero Tommy Searle at the end of the moto.

In his second moto, Ryan pulled a "Budds Creek" and disappeared from the field. Man, he was fast in his moto.

Ferry didn't ride that well, he pulled it through when the team needed it however. His 37th to 5th ride in his second moto was inspiring, on a track that wasn't easy to pass he ate roost for 30 minutes plus two laps. He gutted it out big time and America owes him for this one.

The chain saws were in full effect but I didn't see any streakers, which sucked. Not that I like looking at naked men, but to me, English sporting events means streakers! It was kind of cold, maybe that was it-no self respecting streaker wants to deal with shrinkage.

Here's some other tidbits from the race:

  • The track wasn't very good in my opinion, it was a man made outdoor supercross track that was kind of one lined. Oh well, the facilities were sweet.
  • Josh Coppins is a great guy, I spent some time talking to him on Saturday and he's one of the good guys in the sport, on any continent.
  • Team Mongolia got last, they were riding Suzukis that looked painfully stock. However, they were faster than Iceland last year.
  • Speaking of Iceland, they were way better this year, they ended up third last.
  • Sweden wasn't very good. Hakan Carlqvist, the lonely nordic country turns its eye towards you.
  • Team USA was like rock stars over there, everybody wanted to see them and get a piece of them.
  • I never ate any fish n chips and I regret this.
  • Australia wasn't nearly as good as I and others thought they would be.
  • Billy McKenzie is not scared to twist the throttle and just hold on. He's a trooper.

What are your thoughts on the race?

I wasn't there unfortunately but I ran into RV in the UNITED business class lounge in Washington airport Monday! I was on my way to Brazil on business and RV was on his way home I guess. Him and his girlfriend were sitting in there so I obviously asked the guy for his "John Henry" which he gave me and got a MXON hat as well! My kid was stoked when I called him to tel him about who I ran into! RV has bulken up man, I guess they're fattening him up in prep for the 450! He looked solid though but also looked jet lagged and tired. He did say MXON was very good. I wanted to chat with the kid about MX but thought I should give him his privacy so I went and got a couch further inside! I spent the rest of my trip all week thinking what I should have said to the kid, it caught me by surprise so I was just blabbing without making sense I think...
I agree with motocrossmatt. I understand that the seasons are waaay long both in europe and in the US, and the logistics for the whole event are immense, but we definately need to get the sport on a more International level. 1 race a year just doesnt cut it! It would benefit all the racers including the top dogs as well as fans around the world and even help bring more teams like Mongolia into the most awesome sport ever. Only positives would come from this as international sponsors would be drawn to the spectacle!
I think it would be cool to have more international races so the riders would have more opportunities to race each other. I think it would elevate the level of all the riders and create some great rivalries.
Very good indeed and as a Brazilian i was happy to see the team brazil making it to the final and finishing in a historic 14th place. Apart from the classic British weather it was a great event and i'm proud to have been there.
