It looks like Mr. James Stewart's loyalty is in question. Rumor has it that he will be wearing Answer gear next season. Across the message boards there are many who believe that he is being disloyal to FOX who he has been with for most of his career. At first glance it would be easy to think that James is abandoning the company that has stuck with him through thick and thin and this all just about the money. More than likely it is all about the money, and we know if Answer can handle the type of money that James is asking for, it has to go deeper than that. In an interview over at Motocross Action, Pete Fox was quoted, "Since our beginning, Fox has been totally committed to Motocross and Supercross. We feel strongly that our sport and Industry need both series to be healthy, and Fox will always support both series. That is where Fox's priorities and path recently separated from James. Fox remains committed to the entire sport of both Supercross and Motocross."
What that says to me is that they support both Supercross and Motocross, and they want to make sure they are seen in both arenas. A major problem for all of the companies in Supercross is that stranglehold that THOR/Parts Unlimited have in that venue. Is that a good thing for the sport, I don't think so. Was it a brilliant business move by Thor and Parts Unlimited, yes it was. This also makes it very clear that James has no intentions of riding the outdoor series again or Fox would be right there with him. I for one commend Fox for having the stones to let somebody of James' reputation go, but they are a very strong company, and they were here before James, and they will be here after James.
Before everybody gets all over Bubba's back for not riding the outdoors, somebody needs to go in and see what really makes it so bad that the top riders don't want to do it. It's not like he is a privateer driving his van all over the country and losing money. He flies everywhere, always seems to have a killer car, sleeps in a motor coach that is probably bigger than my house, and has all of the factory perks. My question is, if riding two thirty minute motos isn't the problem, than what is.
As I finished writing this blog this morning, when I went to see what the date was, it hit me. I can remember it like it was yesterday the morning I woke up and saw The Towers going down. I was teaching high school at the time, and all I could think about was if the terrorists wanted to really piss us off, they would go after a school too. Please take a minute today to think about what we lost that day, and give thanks to those who are defending us. I have a feeling I may hear Tobi Keith on the radio more than once today!
