Nowadays, stock brakes really aren’t all that bad, and generally for most people do a good job of bringing the bike to a stop. Here at Motocross.com, though, we know that there are those certain people out there that want a little more power—this is where Braking’s oversized front brake kit comes in.
Recently, we took delivery of Braking’s 270mm oversized front brake kit, which comes complete with a caliper relocating bracket as well as Braking’s CM44 sintered pads. The rotor is made from stainless steel and is designed to add 20 percent more braking power for better feel, while the floating design helps to keep temperatures down despite the intense heat produced during racing conditions. As for the pads, they are designed to give a strong initial bite, and are claimed to be excellent for nearly any type of riding condition.
When we first got our hands on the kit, we thought that it looked a little complicated to install, but once we buckled down and got into it, that couldn’t have been further from the truth. Installation, was super easy, and when it was all said and done, actually only took us about 10 or 15 minutes from start to finish. Out on the track—after we broke in the new pads and rotor—we knew that this kit was the real deal, as the braking power was indeed increased and the overall feel of the front brake was improved as well. While we haven’t put a ton of time in on this setup, we can say from what we have seen that it will last a long time. Unless you somehow find a log or rock to run into, the strong, durable materials used definitely will stand up to anything at the track.
RATING
When it’s all said and done, this 270mm front brake kit from Braking is a solid choice for anyone looking for a little more stopping power for their bike. Perhaps the only downfall that we can see, though, is the price. Because for us, it’s just a little hard to justify spending nearly $300 on something that isn’t absolutely necessary. In the end, though, if you’re the type of racer that is looking for every advantage out there for racing, the Braking 270mm front brake kit will definitely give you one advantage not everyone will have.
