In the world of eye protection, there are quite a few choices nowadays all of which are usually pretty good. One of those choices is Utopia. As a major player in the goggle business for a few years now, Utopia has always offered some solid choices in optical technology. Their latest offering is the Slayer goggle, which boasts some really cool features that no doubt help keep it competitive with every other top company out there.
Like many other goggles, the Slayer goggle features a flexible injection-molded frame for comfort and protection, triple layer foam to help absorb sweat, and an adjustable strap with silicone traction beads to help keep it in place. The Slayer also has a removable nose guard to give a little added protection from flying roost.
Out on the track, the Slayer performs pretty good, however, we did have a few complaints. While the triple layer foam and tough lens do a good job at keeping the sweat and dirt out of our eyes, the actual size of the eye portal seems to be a little on the small side, as it just feels slightly restricting. As for the nose guard, it’s a nice addition, but for us we aren’t huge fans. While it can be removed, small holes are left where it attaches to the frame, making it easy for dust or dirt to enter the goggle.
RATING
While this goggle does do its job at keeping your eyes protected from the elements, there still were a few nagging design flaws that kept us from giving it a higher score. If the eye portal were increased, giving it more peripheral vision, along with improving the nose guard, the Slayer would be one tough goggle to beat when comparing it to its competition. But if you’re in need of a goggle that gets the job done, while still looking cool, look no further than the Utopia Slayer goggle.
