Purchasing quality protection for your melon is probably one of the smartest moves you can make when it comes to motocross. Too often we see guys out at the track with brand new styling gear and a helmet that looks like it has been through one too many crashes. The way we see it, why not spend some extra money and have a helmet that will actually do its job of protecting you? With this Fox V3 helmet, Fox’s third generation of the popular Pro Pilot helmet, you would be doing just that.

The shell is made from a composite of Kevlar, carbon fiber, and fiberglass with as much focus as possible going towards remaining lightweight, yet still retaining excellent structural integrity and protection. All throughout the helmet, you can find trick titanium pieces to help even further bring the weight down. The liner is fuller removable and washable and snaps in and out with little or no trouble. The F3 helmet is also DOT and Snell approved.

Performance-wise, the helmet works just as well as any other; however, some people might experience a few pressure points. For us, this wasn’t something that ruined our experience with the V3, but nonetheless, it was a bit annoying at times. We really like the size of the eye portal on the helmet, though, and the fact that nearly any goggle you might ever buy would probably fit without a problem. As for the safety of the V3, it’s both Snell and DOT approved, meaning it will more than likely withstand quite a bit of abuse.

RATING
Even though we knocked a point off the rating of this helmet, don’t let it distract you from the fact that the F3 is one solid choice for protection. Super light and super stylish, the F3 probably won’t make you as fast as James Stewart or Ricky Carmichael, however, you can sure look the part.
