As the predecessor of the popular Fox Forma Pro boot, the new F3 is destine to become one of the most popular pieces of footwear in motocross. This new generation boot, however, features numerous new designs that help to set it apart from the old Forma Pro.
When designing this all-new boot, Fox pretty much threw the old design away and started from scratch. Beginning with the materials, Fox used high-quality top-grain leather to construct the F3 along with other plastics. These materials used are designed to give the boot flexibility, yet still allow it to offer a high level of protection. The F3 also features four patented designs, which include what Fox refers to as a 3D Biomorphic chassis that incorporates a Lateral I-Beam support strut, an in-molded strap system to help with comfort and durability, a Duratek Outsole for better peg interface, and a tough Fold-over Burn Guard and Extreme Seal Top Gasket for better protection from dirt entering the top of the boot. Lastly, Fox also updated the buckles on the F3. The new buckles boost soft-touch rubber ends along with a Pivotlock system that makes them easier to lock in place and remove.
We’ve been testing the F3 boot for quite a few months now and haven’t had any problems. The newly designed chassis of the boot is awesome, and throughout our testing, we have never run into any problems related to comfort or fit—this boot is probably one of the most comfortable none-hinged boots available on the market. And with a break-in period that is almost non-existent, we immediately felt at home with the F3 on after only a few initial laps. The new buckle system is also really nice, as the buckles are easy to undo and snap closed. Another plus is that they won’t come unbuckled during a moto like the ones found on the older Forma Pro boot. Perhaps the only downfall of the F3 boot, though, is the fact that it isn’t a hinged boot. To us, hinged boots seem to offer just a little more protection for you ankle, however, with the new I-Beam Laterial Support, the F3 is quickly closing the gap between the two designs.
RATING
The F3 boot is arguably one of the best ones available on the market today. It’s stylish, comfortable, protective, and competitively priced with other top-of-the-line boots on the market today. Like we said, though, it isn’t a hinged boot, but it still protects almost as well.
