If you’ve been following motocross racing for a while, you probably know who Doug Dubach is. The former factory racer has done everything from winning races to testing bikes to developing new motorcycles. Now, after steadily building up his successful exhaust company over the years, Dr. D is at the forefront of four-stroke technology with his newest creation.

This complete exhaust system is made entirely from titanium with a magnesium end cap to save even more weight. In fact, Dr. D claims that it is the lightest available complete exhaust system available on the market today, and at 4 lbs 11oz, it’s kind of hard to argue. The exhaust system is also easy to maintain, as all it takes is simply unscrewing a few allen bolts and the packing can be removed. Durability is extremely good on this system, which is usually the case with titanium exhaust systems.

Out on the track, the Dr. D exhaust helps to breathe a little more life into the normally mellow-powered YZ450F, yet still keeps it relatively easy to ride, which is always a good thing. The system also allows the bike to rev out longer in each gear, allowing the bike to actually find the rev limiter during certain occasions. We originally tested the bike on a track that had both fast wide-open sections as well as Supercross-style rhythm sections. In both instances the exhaust system provided the bike with ample low-end grunt for the tighter sections and plenty of top-end power for the fast straights.

RATING
Overall, we came away super impressed with the Dr. D exhaust system. It left us scratching our heads trying to mark it down for something, but all we could come up with was the fact that, like most four-stroke systems out there, the Dr. D costs a pretty penny. But if for those who don’t want to spend that much, Dr. D also offers some less expensive versions that will enchance the performance of you machine just as well.
